february 2011 NEWSLETTER

Greetings from True North Marine!

We hope you enjoyed the holidays and your New Year is off to a good start. We will be periodically sending out a newsletter that will include such things as discussions on technical topics and tips, limited-time specials, and other boating and industry news. We think these will be very informative for our customers, but please let us know if you would rather not receive it.

Typically, the single most expensive piece of equipment on your boat is the engine(s). Maintaining your engine(s) properly can make or break your boating experience, and the off-season can be a great time to catch up on preventive maintenance to avoid unnecessary down time this spring or summer.

A service we provide that many of our customers may not be aware of is oil sample analysis. This is how it works - we draw a small amount of oil from the engine, gearbox, or generator engine oil reservoirs, and send them to a lab for analysis. There they are analyzed for wear metals, contaminants, dirt and water content, etc. Much like blood work, it can truly reveal the health of your engine, transmission, or generator. Many problems can be identified and addressed before they progress and lead to more serious issues. We most often perform this service when doing a pre-purchase mechanical inspection, and the results can significantly impact a buyer's decision to proceed with the purchase. However, there is also tremendous value in tracking history over time so base lines can be established.

Free Oil Analysis

For the remainder of the month of February, we are offering this service free with a standard oil change or engine service. The regular price of the oil analysis is $30 per sample. On a single engine boat this would be a $60 value (engine and gearbox), and on a twin engine boat with generator this would be $150 value (both engines, gears, and generator).

If you would like information about oil sample analysis, or would like to schedule service work, please call our office at 281-549-4300. We can also send an oil sample analysis write-up for your review. As always, our goal is to keep you on the water and able to enjoy your boat (when the weather warms up, that is!).

Sincerely,
Patrick McAndrew
